Today I spent a few hours figuring out how to get the screen holder and printing plate level on the carousel. If that sentence is a little confusing, don’t worry, it was for me too but I figured it out. I hope that other people who use this shop get to have the experience of overcoming their trepidation, confusion, or frustration and reaching a new place of understanding with whatever it is they’re working on. Wow! I can’t believe it’s been 4 months since the last entry, and 2 months since we’ve been open! I’ll be honest that with everything going on it’s been hard to sit and write it down – but I’ll do my best to summarize. So far we’ve had local graphic designers, musicians, and tattooers creating work in the shop. Some beautiful things have come out already that you can see on the ig page. Today was a big day; Dan, one of the newest printshop members, gave me a hand setting up our four color print carousel – sounds fun… Read more…

we are running the orientations and making prints! Still getting the feel for it. Printmaking is a technical process but also has quirks and things you need to get a feel for, just like any craft. The water filtration system is working well, and I’m excited to share more about that process. In August we’ll be hosting open orientations every Monday from 2-4 pm. Send us a message on instagram or fill out an application to join! Read more…

Made the first print today! It went great. Did some on paper and then put one on the back of one of my hoodies – the hoodie print went on upside down, lesson learned. Wow I can’t believe this first chapter of the shop is coming to a close, and now it’s time for the part of the story that involves you, dear reader. Read more…

Been a while since I’ve made an entry, I guess because a lot has happened. A crew helped me bring in this beautiful cupboard for our supplies. This cupboard was going to be in the printshop people tried to set up in our first year here, it even still had labels on the drawers in unmistakable handwriting.  Terran found a beautiful drafting table for free and gifted it to the shop.  I spent a bunch of time learning how to prep images for printing in photoshop.  It turned out I put together the washout booth wrong the first time, but… Read more…

April fool! Last night I stepped off the stoop outside the studio and rolled my ankle! I’m down for the count of at least a couple days so work on the studio has come to a halt for now. This makes me think that I should put a light out on that stoop, what do you think? Read more…

Yesterday I was at homedepot looking for lightning for the shop and the guy I was asking about it was like “I assume these are grow lights, correct?.” lmao Read more…

I wish I could show this to the people who used to live here and tried to start a printshop in the first year. I’m proud of what I’ve made, and there’s part of me that made it for them. I hope they come visit someday and can see the results of the cool stuff they helped start.        Today, Major helped me drill some holes and hold boards in place. The last time those folks who tried to start a printshop would’ve seen Major, he was probably only five or six years old. Now… Read more…

Big progress today! Got the power strip set up under the desk which required drilling a big hole in some plywood, that was fun. Amazing how just plugging in a power strip ended up taking 30 minutes of searching for tools and accessing the outlet. After being thwarted by stripped screws, I managed to get the first wall of the darkroom up. Spent the rest of the evening putting together the washout booth that arrived today. The washout booth was kind of a pain to get together but didn’t pass the threshold of ‘way too annoying’ and I got it… Read more…
