Dear Diary,

Today was a win for us. Got this incredible exposure unit for a meeere fraction of its worth. An exposure unit is the thing that transfers an image from plastic transparency to the screen you print with. You put a thin coat of goop called emulsion on the screen, this stuff  hardens when light hits it. The sun can be your exposure unit if needed.  Then the screen goes on the flat glass top of that has uv lights in it and then close a vacuum lid on it. In between the screen and the glass/lights is your transparent stencil. The stencil blocks light from hitting the emulsion, so your stencil appears on the screen in the hardened emulsiowhen you take it out and wash it. The vaccuum seal makes it so there is no gap between your plastic and the screen so no light will leak past any edges, and it is impossible to shift out of place during exposure. There are many ways to expose a screen, like I said The Sun, but this machine is top of the line and it is a little miraculous that this little printshop has one in the darkroom.
